Perfect Wines to Drink Outdoors »

When you find yourself on a patio or porch or heading to a park or beach, look to some different sections of the wine shop for the perfect wine. Most people at a picnic will like a white wine. They’re often crisp and fresh and well-suited to sipping casually, outdoors. Red wines can work well too, especially lighter reds with less alcohol. If you're torn between white and red, why decide? Dry rosé was created for summer drinking: It goes well with either meat or fish, and is a favorite wine to drink on a hot day.

    Washington State Wines »

While it's true that Washington State it still very much a frontier region when it comes wine, there are many undiscovered gems. Merlot became an early Washington signature, highlighted for its balance of rich fruit and fine structure, but Cabernet Sauvignon is the state's most planted grape. Bordeaux blends are common, but Syrah is gaining ground, intriguing winemakers and buyers alike for its intensity and complexity. White grapes hold their own as well, from international varieties like Chardonnay, Riesling, and Pinot Gris. Sandy Stimers, presenter.
