Notes of cherries, olives, oranges and peach pits here, with some vanilla. It’s lively and balanced, with a medium body, nicely polished tannins and a long, firm yet supple finish. Drink or hold.

The bouquet on the 2019 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Silineo opens like you’re chiseling into an ashen stone to find a mix of black currants and exotic curries. It’s soft-textured, more lifted and finessed than expected, with juicy blackberry fruits offset by sour citrus and savory herbal tones. Grippy tannins linger under an air of violets and lavender as the 2019 finishes structured, yet not severely so. Silineo is primarily Sangiovese with a bit of Merlot and Corolino. It spends seven months refining in tonneaux, followed by another eleven months in large Slavonian oak casks. (Eric Guido)

The 2020 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Silìneo opens with a flourish of white pepper, cracked chalk and dried blueberries. It's silky and plush with tart wild berry fruits that add tension throughout. A saline mineral core maintains a savory character. Wild herbs and liquid stone define the finish, as the 2020 tapers off lightly structured and with medium length.
