Critical Acclaim

VN 95 Vinous 2020 vintage Sep 2025

The 2020 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico is surprisingly lifted and airy in the glass, showcasing bright strawberry and cherry tones complemented by nuances of cedary spice. It is juicy in style, with silken textures and masses of ripe red and blue fruits that coast along a stream of cooling acidity. This vintage communicates refinement through the long and structured finale, coming across as savory with excellent length. Beautifully done.

WE 94 Wine Enthusiast 2020 vintage

This Amarone leaps from the glass with an array of aromas that seem daunting at first but then are as comforting as a down comforter. Opening with aromas of ripe black plums, dusted with candied violet petals, espression and a distinct crushed chalk minerality. The palate is voluminous as dried black cherries, black tea and savory herbal flavors rush to meet the roasted coffee bean and licorice roots notes found on the compelling finish. Drink Now - 2045

JS 94 James Suckling 2020 vintage

A bold interpretation of Amarone. Refined aromas of licorice, dried cherries, camphor and menthol reverberate across a compact, dense mid-palate. At this early stage, the tannins feel largely oak-derived. But there is nothing blunt about them and there is ample mineral infusion and freshness. Bottle age will serve this rich Amarone well, placating the primary fruit while transforming the wine into something far more complex. Very good. Drink or hold.

WE 93 Wine Enthusiast 2019 vintage 9/1/2023

Aromas of plum and black cherry that give way to notes of black tea, violet and savory spices. The palate is well-balanced, highlighting both the fruit and non-fruit flavors equally. Black and red berries share the stage with notes of espresso, anise, dried leaf and limestone. Fine tannins and meaningful acidity make this wine a standout. (Jeff Porter)

SP 93 Wine Spectator 2020 vintage December 31, 2024

An elegant red, with a supple texture and a frame of fine-grained tannins, this offers a generous core of plumped black cherry and warm fig. Shows notes of pomegranate seed, mocha, vanilla and spiced orange peel animated by bright, plum skin acidity. Long and creamy on the aromatic herb- and graphite-laced finish. Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta. Drink now through 2035. 9,166 cases made, 2,992 cases import (Alison Napjus)

RP 93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2019 vintage

The Allegrini 2019 Amarone della Valpolicella Classico reverts to a classic profile for air-dried fruit made with appassimento. There are distant whiffs of candied cherry that give more lift and intensity to the bouquet that is otherwise characterized by heavier tones of black fruit, candied cherry, red licorice and sweet earth or potting soil. It finishes with a well-balanced full-bodied style (and a noticeable 16% alcohol content). The traditional blend is 45% Corvina Veronese, 45% Corvinone, 5% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta, and 100,000 bottles were released.

WE 93 Wine Enthusiast 2021 vintage

This is what happens when earth meets elegance. Forest walks lead to a kitchen where plums simmer with herbs for wild game while cocoa adds its luxury touch. The palate keeps that old-school Amarone soul but adds modern polish, dusty tannins framing everything just right. Drink Now - 2035.

SP 92 Wine Spectator 2019 vintage February 29, 2024

Elegant and balanced, medium-bodied and harmonious, this Amarone offers ripe black and red cherry fruit and a subtle minerally underpinning of smoke and loamy earth. Reveals hints of fig cake, ground anise and dried thyme, which add complexity and linger on the refined finish. Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Oseleta. Drink now through 2034. 12,083 cases made, 4,117 cases imported. (Alison Napjus)

JS 91 James Suckling 2021 vintage

Quite classic and intense, full of bay leaves, fresh black pepper, prunes and blood oranges with tamarind and licorice. Creamy on the full-bodied palate, showing roasted-peppercorn flavor with firm, velvety tannins and refreshing acidity. Drink or hold.
