Critical Acclaim

RP 95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2019 vintage Dec 14, 2023

The Altesino 2019 Brunello di Montalcino boasts a rich and savory side that this wine wears very well. There is a beautiful level of dark fruit that folds into the wine’s velvety texture. Blackberry and plum envelop the palate, adding elegant full-bodied volume and fine tannins along the way. The wine is aged in traditional Slavonian casks, and production reaches 110,000 bottles annually (which is very ambitious considering this level of quality). (Monica Larner)

Pouring a rich ruby color, the 2019 Brunello Di Montalcino offers an attractive nose of cherry candies, sweet herbs, polished leather, and orange oils. It moves seamlessly to the palate with equally harmonious structure and a great, long finish. Medium to full-bodied, it lasts for ages. This is one of those wines that’s going to have a very wide drinking window and is exceptional already. Drink 2026–2046. (Audrey Frick)

JS 95 James Suckling 2021 vintage Saturday, December 13, 2025

A lively Brunello with aromas of plums, ripe cherries, cedar and teak that follow through to a medium body with fine tannins and a crisp finish. Crunchy and linear. Lovely energy at the end. Drink or hold.

VN 94 Vinous 2019 vintage Dec 2023

A dark ruby color in the glass, the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino opens with a beguiling blend of dusty earth, crushed rocks, savory herbs and dried roses. This is racy and sleek, with vividly ripe wild berry fruits elevated by orange and sage, all guided by vibrant acidity. Grippy tannins take control through the finish, yet the mouth is left watering for more as a bitter licorice tinge and dark chocolate adds a crunchy sensation. (Eric Guido)

JD 94 Jeb Dunnuck 2021 vintage 2/18/2026

The 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino pours a bright red hue and opens with citrus-tinged aromatics of tangerine, red cherries, dried herbs, and pressed flowers. Medium-bodied, it has a focused, linear feel on the palate, with well-defined tannins, brisk acidity, and a salty, mouthwatering finish. Drink this vibrant, classic effort over the coming 15 years. Drink 2026-2041.

RP 94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2021 vintage Jan 29, 2026

The Altesino 2021 Brunello di Montalcino was a little shy when I tasted it, but knowing the track record of this estate, I have no doubt that the wine will flesh out with bottle age. Give it a year or two more. The bouquet offers blackcurrant and wild berry with a dark mineral note and grilled herb. Pressed violet also rises to the top of the wine, which is firmly structured and very lively in terms of mouthfeel. This popular release of 110,000 bottles ages in Slavonian oak casks only.

SP 94 Wine Spectator 2021 vintage June 30, 2026

The flavors of black cherry, blackberry and black currant are pure, with accents of violet, wild herbs and earth. This is smooth, picking up chalky tannins as the flavors build to the lengthy conclusion. Best from 2028 through 2045. 9,200 cases made, 3,100 cases imported.

SP 93 Wine Spectator 2019 vintage Jun 30, 2024

Though solidly structured, this red displays macerated flavors of cherry, plum, earth and wild herbs, backed by vibrant acidity. A hint of chocolate graces the finish alongside dense tannins. Best from 2026 through 2039. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 9,200 cases made, 3,100 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

VN 93 Vinous 2021 vintage Nov 2025

The 2021 Brunello di Montalcino mixes violet and lavender tones before settling on stemmed wild strawberries. It is remarkably fresh and fruit-forward, with a core of tantalizing acidity elevating depths of ripe red and blue fruits. This finishes with staining length and edgy tannins, leaving a raspberry concentration and nuances of autumnal spice.
