A vividly pure ruby color, the 2022 Rosso di Montalcino Pian delle Vigne opens with a moody blend of dried cherries and wild herbs. This is surprisingly racy and lifted in style with ripe red berries complemented by clove and sage. The finish is lasting and potent yet still fresh, leaving a tart cranberry tinge and spice hints. The 2022 Pian delle Vigne continues to impress for its energy and purity. If only the Brunello of the house would follow suit. (Antonio Galloni)
