Critical Acclaim
This is really polished with pepper, dark earth and slate. Hint of chalk, too. It’s medium- to full-bodied with round tannins that nicely frame the dark-fruit and violet character. Crunchy and well structured. Drink or hold.
Vibrant aromas of spiced blackberry and black raspberry erupt from the glass along with hints of strawberry and red currant. Round black fruit on the palate and mouthwatering, velvety tannins lead the taste and fortell the bottling's future if given time to age. You can decant and drink now, but this wine will show best from 2028 – 2040.
The 2022 Atlántida Tintilla was produced with grapes from their own vineyards and therefore certified organic and more controlled than the purchased grapes. It fermented in oak vats with 100% full clusters, indigenous yeasts and long macerations and matured in 228- and 500-liter barrels for 18 months. It has a more reticent and shier nose, cleaner and more defined, subtler than the Vara y Pulgar from this same year, more elegant too, with hints of violets, spices, red and black berry fruit, some spiciness and smoke. It has a medium to full-bodied palate with full ripeness, 14.5% alcohol and a very chalky sensation. It's complex, deep and layered, still very young and with aging potential. I tasted the 2012, and it was very drinkable and with a nice evolution, even if the wine was produced slightly differently. 2,200 bottles were filled in April 2024.
