An elegant and enticing red, this features cherry, strawberry and floral aromas and flavors accented by earth and rhubarb. Firm and lightly astringent on the finish — but food will resolve that. Best from 2023 through 2028. 35,000 cases made, 5,000 cases imported.

The entry-level Basilica Cafaggio 2022 Chianti Classico Single Estate shows simple lines with some hot-vintage ripeness that comes across as strawberry and cherry confit. The bouquet is almost solely focused on one-dimensional primary aromas, although you do get hints of earth or pressed flower that are often associated with Sangiovese.
