Critical Acclaim

RP 95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2021 vintage

Medium ruby-purple, the 2021 Pinot Noir Cumberland Reserve offers generous aromas of cranberry sauce, floral potpourri, blood orange and wafts of dried herbs. The medium-bodied palate is youthfully gregarious and focused on generous allspice flavors, although its chalky, tensile frame and long, latent finish suggest this has more to give with additional time in bottle.

JD 94 Jeb Dunnuck 2023 vintage

The 2023 Pinot Noir Cumberland Reserve opens with aromas of raspberry liqueur, mocha, floral perfume, and savory notes of fresh sage. Medium-bodied, it offers ripe, detailed tannins, balanced acidity, and a long finish. While this vintage hints at opulence, the wine remains beautifully balanced and refreshing. It’s a stunning introduction to the vintage and a benchmark for the region as an appellation wine. Drink 2025-2040.

JS 94 James Suckling 2023 vintage

Bright and seductive, this pinot offers fresh cherries, crushed wild berries, violets, wet rocks and subtle spices on the nose. Racy and mouthwatering, with spicy and minerally tension, it has a medium body, a dusty texture to its tannins and a lingering and racy finish. Focused and very precise. Drink or hold.

SP 93 Wine Spectator 2021 vintage June 30, 2023

Fresh and juicy yet well-structured, with vibrant cherry and cranberry flavors that take on dusky spice and black tea accents. Builds richness toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2032. 4,500 cases made. (Tim Fish)

JS 93 James Suckling 2021 vintage Tuesday, April 4, 2023

Fresh and crunchy pinot with aromas of fresh strawberries, peppercorns, green olives, freshly turned soil and rosemary stems. Lovely silky texture, yet firm too, with tight-grained tannins and bright acidity. Delicious balance of sweet fruit and savory earthiness. From biodynamically grown grapes. Drink or hold. (James Suckling)

VN 93 Vinous 2023 vintage Jul 2025

The 2023 Pinot Noir Cumberland Reserve is incredibly fresh, with a bouquet of dusty dried flowers, lavender pastille, nuances of cedary spice and wild blueberries. Ripe wild berry fruits and crisp mineral tones glide across the palate over a layer of pure silk. The finish is long and tense, yet remains remarkably fresh as violet tones resonate over a bed of silken tannins. The Cumberland Reserve represents amazing value. Already enjoyable, it will also excel in the cellar.

SP 93 Wine Spectator 2023 vintage

Generous yet silky in texture and refined, with lilting raspberry and guava flavors that are accented by fresh violet, orange peel and dusky spice notes as this gathers richness on the lively finish. Drink now through 2033. 7,222 cases made.

SP 93 Wine Spectator 2021 vintage

Expressive and inviting, with multilayered raspberry, orange peel, rose petal and dusky spice flavors that finish with verve and sleek tannins. Drink now through 2032.

VN 92 Vinous 2021 vintage Jan 2024

The 2021 Pinot Noir Reserve Cumberland blossoms in the glass with dusty blackberry and rose petals complicated by hints of incense and clove. Succulent and round with ripe red fruit depths and inner florals. It takes on a chalky minerality as juicy acidity maintains an energetic feel. Hints of sour citrus tug at the senses as the 2021 finishes fresh and crisp, leaving gently staining silty tannins. The balance here is outstanding. (Eric Guido)
