Critical Acclaim

JD 99 Jeb Dunnuck 2021 vintage 6/6/2023

The 2021 EE Red Wine is ripe and powerful, with smoky red and black fruits as well as lots of background oak, graphite, espresso, and dark chocolate-like aromas and flavors that develop beautifully with time in the glass. Deep, rich, full-bodied, and concentrated on the palate, it has plenty of background oak, the building tannins of the vintage, and a great finish. A gorgeous wine, it will benefit from 3-4 years in the cellar and evolve for 25-30 years in cold cellars. The blend is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Cabernet Franc brought up in new barrels. (Jeb Dunnuck)

JD 98 Jeb Dunnuck 2017 vintage 1/31/2020

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Cabernet Franc from the redder iron soils in the center of the vineyard, the 2017 Tench Vineyard EE Red Wine is another incredible wine in this lineup. Deep purple/black-colored, with mineral-drenched notes of blackcurrants, ground herbs, earth, graphite, and crushed rocks, it has an “iron fist in a velvet glove” style on the palate, loads of tannins, good acidity, and a big finish. (Jeb Dunnuck)

RP 98 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2016 vintage

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot, the deep garnet-purple colored 2016 Proprietary Red EE Tench Vineyard is scented of pure plums and ripe blueberries with redcurrants and touches of lavender, roses, bay leaves and dusty earth. The palate is medium to full-bodied, firm, fine-grained, vibrant and refreshing, finishing long and perfumed. 1,403 cases produced.

RP 96 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2017 vintage

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2017 Proprietary Red EE Tench Vineyard (a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot) strolls out of the glass with nonchalant savory notes of beef drippings, sautéed herbs, pencil lead and tapenade with a core of warm cassis, black cherry compote and redcurrant jelly. Full-bodied, densely packed, serious and savory in the mouth, it has firm, chewy tannins and a lively, long finish. 1,451 cases were made.

RP 95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2021 vintage

A blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon and 45% Cabernet Franc, the 2021 Proprietary Red EE Tench Vineyard offers up a wonderful range of dark fruit — black cherries, cassis and blackberries — couched in hints of dark chocolate. Like almost all the Bevan wines, it’s full-bodied, richly concentrated and velvety in texture. This one finishes long, with a mocha and cocoa-stained finish.

VN 94 Vinous 2016 vintage

Lifted aromatics give the 2016 Red Wine EE Tench Vineyard a dimension of breadth and expansiveness that is alluring. The red cherry, plum, mocha and spice flavors are racy in this dense, explosive wine. The EE is shaping up to be another gem from Russell Bevan.

SP 93 Wine Spectator 2016 vintage October 31, 2019

Offers a lavish feel, with waves of crushed plum, blackberry and açaí berry flavors rolling forth, infused liberally with dark licorice, sweet toast and fruitcake notes. A late tug of dark earth keeps this just honest enough. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2020 through 2032. 1,403 cases made. (James Molesworth)

RP 91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2009 vintage Dec 22, 2011

The 2009 Red Wine EE Cuvee Showket Vineyard flows onto the palate with sweet roses, spices, flowers, all of which come together in a forward, juicy style meant to be enjoyed over the next few years. Floral notes round out the textured finish. This is another soft, totally inviting wine from Russell Bevan. The EE Cuvee is 50% Cabernet Franc and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon. Anticipated maturity: 2013–2017. (Antonio Galloni)
