Critical Acclaim

SP 92 Wine Spectator 2022 vintage March 31, 2024

Polished and glossy, with supple waves of cassis and red currant flecked with a lot of spice and singed garrigue. Warm chestnut and graphite shavings move in, with loads of graphite bringing focus. A modern version, showing poise and polish. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2035. 2,000 cases made, 800 cases imported. (Kristen Bieler)

SP 92 Wine Spectator 2023 vintage March 31, 2025

A winey, stylish version, with cassis, steeped cherry, mulberry and lavender notes, all edged in warm iron. Full yet streamlined, this is buoyed by fine acidity for precision on the finish, which is graced with apple wood smoke. Grenache and Syrah. Drink now through 2030. 9,500 cases made, 2,000 cases imported.

SP 92 Wine Spectator 2020 vintage Feb 28, 2023

Exuberant and expressive, this offers cherry coulis, raspberry, red licorice and warm earth notes that are juicy and open-knit, yet propped up with snappy acidity, a refreshing surge of fine mineral and a note of tar. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2030. 10,000 cases made, 3,500 cases imported.

JD 91 Jeb Dunnuck 2022 vintage 10/30/2023

The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Hauts De Barville checks in as a blend of 70% Grenache and equal parts Syrah and Mourvèdre raised in a combination of foudre, new and used barrels, and concrete. It's another pretty, floral, perfumed wine from this estate that shines for its balance and elegance. Wild strawberries, mulberries, spice, and Provençal garrigue give way to a medium-bodied, nicely balanced, elegant 2022 that will shine right out of the gate. 90-92 points. (Jeb Dunnuck)

VN 91 Vinous 2022 vintage Jun 2024

Mixing 70% Grenache with the rest equally divided between Syrah and Mourvèdre, the 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Hauts de Barville evokes ripe strawberry, licorice, black cherry, cedar and garrigue. Structured and savory, the 2022 maintains its freshness well and culminates in a layered finale.</p> (Nicolas Greinacher)

JD 91 Jeb Dunnuck 2023 vintage 10/29/2024

Very much in the style of the vintage, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Les Hauts De Barville is based on 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 12% Mourvèdre, 1% Cinsault, and a 2% mix of varieties that was raised mostly in foudre but also in new and used barrels and concrete tank. It has a charming, medium-bodied, nicely textured profile as well as ample sweet red fruits, some spicy, peppery, garrigue-like nuances, soft tannins, and outstanding length. Beautifully done and well worth seeking out, like most 2023s, it’s going to offer pleasure right out of the gate. 90-92 points.

JS 91 James Suckling 2020 vintage

A classic, grenache-dominated Chateauneuf with a wide spectrum of red fruit, as well as notes of spices and violets. Rich, but with plenty of moderately dry tannin to balance the fleshiness, this has a long finish, where the sweetness and savory character are neatly matched. Drink or hold.
