Critical Acclaim

JD 96 Jeb Dunnuck 2021 vintage 7/21/2023

Pouring an inky youthful ruby, the 2021 Zinfandel Papera Ranch is ripe with lavender, ripe boysenberry, fig, melding spices, and wet stone. Full-bodied and opulent, it opens to a flood of ripe baked berries, with sweet earth, supple texture, and cocoa filling the palate. With a superb, long finish, I sense it will develop at a glacial pace. Drink 2025–2040. (Audrey Frick)

SP 95 Wine Spectator 2021 vintage August 31, 2024

Deeply structured yet agile and vibrant, with handsome flavors of black cherry and raspberry that take on accents of dried fig, orange peel and brown spices as this builds richness toward medium-grained tannins. Drink now through 2035. 1,034 cases made. (Tim Fish)

JD 95 Jeb Dunnuck 2022 vintage

A youthful magenta/purple-tinged color, the 2022 Zinfandel Papera Ranch reveals more high-toned aromas of cinnamon, juicy fresh mixed berry fruit, and fresh pine. Medium to full-bodied, it has a more linear feel at this stage. It’ss going to take time to open up and show its best, but I love its more nervous energy at this stage already. Drink 2025-2040. I love it.

SP 95 Wine Spectator 2022 vintage

Impeccably structured and rich with personality, this red captures the essence of Russian River Zin, offering dark cherry and blackberry flavors accented by fruitcake spices, dried fig, orange oil and savory pepper tones that finish with youthful but polished tannins. Drink now through 2035. 1,044 cases made.

VN 94 Vinous 2021 vintage Jan 2023

The 2021 Zinfandel Papera Ranch is a powerful wine. Swaths of tannin wrap around a core of red/purplish fruit. Savory, floral and earthy notes add quite a bit of character. This potent Russian River Zinfandel packs quite the punch. Time in the glass brings out the wine's natural breadth and resonance, much of that attributable to the 15% mixed blacks that includes a number of varieties that confer structure. 93-95 points. (Antonio Galloni)

VN 93 Vinous 2022 vintage Jan 2025

The 2022 Zinfandel Papera Ranch is silky, layered and super-refined. Crushed flowers, red-toned fruit, cedar, leather and dried flowers all meld together in the glass. The 2022 doesn’t have the exuberance of the very best years, but its balance and overall freshness make up for that. Best of all, this will drink well with minimal cellaring. (Antonio Galloni)
