The 2021 Barolo is a very pretty, elegant wine. Sweet floral overtones meld into a core of bright red-toned fruit. The tannins are a bit edgy, but that should not be an issue in a few years' time. The straight Barolo here is often a quiet underachiever, as it is again in 2021. Terrific.

This offers notes of wild strawberries, dried cherries, dried blood oranges and hints of cedar, cloves and crushed rocks. Spicy and a little austere on a medium- to full-bodied palate, with dusty tannins and a tense, slightly chewy aftertaste. Try from 2027.
