Critical Acclaim

JS 93 James Suckling 2020 vintage Monday, August 8, 2022

A classic Chianti Classico with plums, strawberries and peaches on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins and a long, linear finish with brightness and focus. Juicy finish. Drinkable now, but even better in a year or two. (James Suckling)

RP 93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2020 vintage

The 2020 Chianti Classico is Sangiovese with small parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. This is a lovely wine with a level of punchiness, brightness and inner energy that is never easy to achieve, especially in a warm vintage such as this. That’s the Panzano magic, enhanced in this case by the estate’s non-interventionist winemaking philosophy. You’ll love to drink this entry-level wine no matter what your personal preference in Sangiovese style. Production is 31,373 bottles.

JS 92 James Suckling 2021 vintage

A dense, velvety and delicious Chianti Classico showing aromas of Morello cherries, wild berries and dried flowers on the nose. Medium-bodied with fine tannins. Plenty of texture, with a core of berries funneling through. Flavorful finish. Drink or hold.

VN 92 Vinous 2022 vintage

The 2022 Chianti Clássico is fruity, supple and very easy to drink. Succulent dark red fruit, plum, leather, spice and a kick of blood orange are front and center. Medium in body and forward, with fine balance, the 2022 is full of charm. The warm vintage yielded an especially succulent Chianti Clássico that is quite appealing.<br/><br/>

VN 91 Vinous 2021 vintage Jun 2024

The 2021 Chianti Classico is an elegant, gracious wine. Crushed flowers, bright red-toned fruit, tobacco, cinnamon and dried flowers all take shape in a decidedly delicate, understated wine from Rampolla. A model of elegance and finesse, the 2021 is showing beautifully today. There is perhaps just a touch of VA in the bouquet, but it is not especially evident. The blend is 80% Sangiovese, 16% Merlot and a dollop of Cabernet Sauvignon. The Sangiovese was aged in cask, while the French varieties were raised in smaller French barrels. (Antonio Galloni)

SP 91 Wine Spectator 2021 vintage

Maraschino cherry, pomegranate, smoked meat, earth and rosemary flavors highlight this sleek red, which is defined by vivid acidity and solid tannins, with a dry, sinewy finish. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2026 through 2037. 3,000 cases made, 1,250 cases imported.

SP 90 Wine Spectator 2022 vintage July 2025

This is rich and exudes cherry and raspberry fruit. Iron, leafy underbrush and spice accents add detail as this winds down alongside a light dusting of tannins. Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Best from 2026 through 2035. 3,000 cases made, 525 cases imported.
