Volpaia Castelprile Rosso Riserva 2021 750ml

The 2019 Riserva Castelprile shows how far these wines have come in recent years. Dark and brooding in feel, the 2020 hits the palate with loads of black fruit, lavender, espresso and grilled herbs. Even with all of its obvious intensity, the 2019 retains terrific freshness and energy. This is such a classy and elegant wine, certainly the best yet here. (Antonio Galloni)

The 2016 Prile is the top wine from Volpaia's Prelius estate in Maremma. It offers all the richness that is typical of the Tuscan coast. Blackberry jam, licorice, bittersweet chocolate, mocha and sweet spice give this dark, voluptuous red quite a bit of complexity. The 2016 is very nicely done. <br/><br/>Blend: 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Sangiovese, 20% Merlot<br/><br/>Drinking Window: 2024-2031

The nose evokes a camping trip, from plucking berries off thorny bushes to damp soil and leaves underfoot to wrapping up in a leather jacket and the smoke of a campfire. The palate turns peppery and meaty, with more berries and metallic, earthy undertones. (Danielle Callegari)

An elegant red, offering blackberry, black cherry, earth and sanguine flavors. Vibrant acidity and a line of dusty tannins keep this humming along, while eucalyptus and wild herb accents linger.
