Critical Acclaim
The wine is powered with dark tannins and ripe black fruits. It has weight and and fine juicy flavors. The quality of this government-owned estate is definitely improving.
The 2022 Couhins is another impressive wine from this under the radar property. Inky blue/purplish fruit, spice, lavender, licorice and chocolate infuse the 2022 with tons of complexity and nuance. This plush, explosive Pessac-Léognan is compelling. I especially love the energy here. Terrific.
The 2022 Château Couhins is incredibly impressive. Based on 54% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Petit Verdot, it has a darker, concentrated, focused style that's going to benefit from bottle age. Giving up lots of both red and black fruits, as well as some floral and violet hints, it has good mid-palate depth, ripe tannins, and a great finish.
A blend of 54% Merlot, 38% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot and 3% Cabernet Franc, the 2022 Couhins reveals aromas of cassis, lilac, iris, spring flowers and elegant hints of spices, typical of this cooler limestone terroir. It's medium to full-bodied on the palate, ample and fleshy, with velvety tannins and a vibrant core of fruit, concluding with a long, fruity finish. This is an impressive effort from an estate to watch.
