Critical Acclaim
The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Prestige Très Vieilles Vignes is the flagship from this notable domaine and checks in as 90% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre that's from a mix of lieux-dits (Les Bédines, La Crau, La Guigasse, and Les Saintes Vierges) and brought up all in stainless steel. Its deep ruby hue is followed by a gorgeous bouquet of ripe strawberries, kirsch, Provençal garrigue, ground pepper, and subtle meaty, leathery nuances. As always, this cuvée reminds me of a street market in the south of France with its overflowing Provençal charm and character. Medium to full-bodied, concentrated, with fine tannins and a great finish, this ultra-classic Châteauneuf du Pape will keep for 10-15 years in cold cellars, although I love it today. (Jeb Dunnuck)
Assembled from old-vine Grenache and Mourvèdre grown in several sandy lieux-dits, the 2019 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Prestige Tres Vieilles Vignes is a solid effort—perhaps the best I've tasted from this traditional producer. Blackberries and plums are joined by asphalt and licorice, while the full-bodied palate is concentrated, firm but ripe, with a softly dusty, long, licorice-tinged finish. It should drink well for at least a decade. (Joe Czerwinski)
Intense herbal liqueur nose with savory and licorice notes. Very crisp and structured for the 2020 vintage this has a lot of energy and excellent originality. Long, polished finish. A cuvee of 90% grenache and 10% mourvedre.
Based on 90% Grenache and 10% Mourvèdre that will spend three years in tank, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape Prestige Très Vieilles Vignes sports a dense purple hue as well as a big, port-like bouquet of red and blue fruits, spicy herbs, tobacco, and ground pepper. This rich, full-bodied 2019 stays nicely balanced on the palate and has ripe yet building tannins, a wonderful mid-palate, and outstanding length on the finish. It's a ripe, decadent, old-school styled Châteauneuf du Pape with lots to love. 90-92 points. (Jeb Dunnuck)
