Critical Acclaim

VN 94 Vinous 2022 vintage

The 2022 Latour-Martillac has a slightly ripe nose than its peers: candied red berry in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with quite thickly-textured tannins, weighty and powerful with cedar and mocha-infused black fruit on the assertive finish. It lacks a bit of finesse now, but I can see this surprising a few people with the wherewithal to cellar for a decade. (NM)

Drinking Window: 2032-2065

SP 94 Wine Spectator 2022 vintage January 2025

A youthfully compact style, with its core of red and black currant preserves sitting behind a mix of warm tar, alder and chestnut. Dark tobacco and leather notes stretch out on the finish and add a textural element, while the fruit keeps pace. Solid. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2027 through 2040. 12,000 cases made, 2,500 cases imported.

WE 93 Wine Enthusiast 2022 vintage

Barrel sample. Owned by the Bernard family of Domaine de Chevalier, this wine has a balanced blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Spice and black-currant fruits are developing, with richness and a layer of acidity.

JD 93 Jeb Dunnuck 2022 vintage

The ruby/plum-hued 2022 Château Latour-Martillac offers up a smoking good bouquet of ripe currants, cassis, and assorted blue fruits as well as some classic Graves chocolate, scorched earth, and floral notes. Full-bodied, rich, and textured, it has lots of ripeness yet never goes over the top and stays balanced and lively.

RP 91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2022 vintage

A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 42% Merlot and 8% Petit Verdot, the 2022 Latour Martillac displays aromas of cassis, blueberry, raspberry, licorice, menthol, iris and violet. Medium to full-bodied, the palate is perfectly balanced, fleshy in the mid-palate and seamless with a moderately concentrated and elegant texture. The new winery allows for more accuracy during the winemaking process, and it is noticeable.
