Critical Acclaim

JS 96 James Suckling 2020 vintage

The deeply fragrant nose pulls you inexorably into this majestic Chateauneuf. So vibrant and refined for this amount of power and concentration. Breathtaking Mediterranean herbal freshness at the super-long finish.

JS 96 James Suckling 2022 vintage Thursday, April 11, 2024

A well-composed, structured and refined Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The nose reveals notes of dark cherries, cassis, dried thyme, black pepper and a touch of violets. It's full-bodied with fine, firm tannins. The frame of tannins shape up the palate, with dark berries at the core. Plenty of spices and grilled herb character on the palate bring vibrancy and drive. Robust and focused, and the funneled finish has length. Try after 2028.

JD 94 Jeb Dunnuck 2020 vintage 11/11/2022

The classic 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape is straight-up terrific and excels in the vintage. It will be interesting to compare this to the Le Plateau over the coming 20 years or so. Giving up lots of red and blue fruits, violets, flowers, and hints of graphite, it’s medium to full-bodied, has a layered, seamless mouthfeel, beautifully integrated tannins, and remarkable purity as well as length. It’s a brilliant Châteauneuf du Pape from this talented team that readers will love to have in their cellars. Enjoy bottles any time over the coming 15-20 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)

JD 94 Jeb Dunnuck 2022 vintage 10/29/2024

Starting with the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape, this deep ruby/plum-hued effort is based on 60% Grenache, 31% Syrah, 8% Mourvèdre, and the rest a mix of varieties that was brought up in new and old barrels and concrete. It has a gorgeous nose of black raspberries, Bing cherries, spicy garrigue, leather, and ground pepper, with just a kiss of background oak. With medium to full-bodied richness and a concentrated yet focused, elegant style on the palate, it's going to benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and drink brilliantly over the following 15+ years.

SP 92 Wine Spectator 2022 vintage February 28, 2026

Large in scale and richly styled, with a ripe core of cherry and cassis liqueur hemmed in with chalk-fine tannins. Smoked anise, meat and earth merge in, while graphite and crushed stone notes line the robust finish; this needs time to unwind. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre, Counoise, Muscardin, Vaccarèse and Cinsaut. Best from 2027 through 2040. 16,000 cases made, 30 cases imported.

RP 91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2020 vintage Sep 29, 2023

Even better than when I tasted it the previous year, Mont Redon's 2020 Chateauneuf du Pape has turned out remarkably youthful, bursting with scents of purple raspberries, sherbet, violet and cassis. It's full-bodied, supple but richly concentrated on the palate, with a long, silky finish. (Joe Czerwinski)

RP 91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2022 vintage Sep 26, 2024

Aromas of violet, dark wild berries, lavender and smoke preface the 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape from Mont Redon, a medium to full-bodied, concentrated and structured wine with an assertive tannic frame, velvety tannins and a long and spicy finish. Mainly Grenache Noir with Syrah, Mourvèdre and other authorized grapes, it's matured only 8% in new barrels and the rest in a combination of used barrels and foudres.
