This wine shows the generous richness of the vintage while restraining it with fine tannins and pure black-currant acidity. The structure and fruits promise long-term aging. Drink this wine from 2027.

This has a dense core (with generous black fruits) and is very perfumed and ripe. The wine has a fine structure as well as an open character.

The 2019 Prieuré-Lichine is impeccable. Creamy, layered and resonant in the glass, the 2019 hits all the right notes. Sweet red cherry/plum, lavender, rose petal, spice, mint and blood orange all build effortlessly. Over the last handful of years Prieuré-Lichine has been the single most under the radar wine in Margaux. The 2019 is another fine edition. Class, polish and sensuality make Prieuré-Lichine absolutely irresistible.

The 2018 Prieuré-Lichine is a gorgeous, elegant wine. Strong Cabernet aromatics give the 2018 striking savory notes to play off the natural radiance of the year. Plush and sensual, with no hard edges and terrific balance, the 2018 hits all the right notes. Dried herbs, rose petal, cedar, tobacco and mint linger on the finely cut, persistent finish. This is an especially understated wine for the year.

Barrel sample. This has a dense core (with generous black fruits) and is very perfumed and ripe. The wine has a fine structure as well as an open character.

The 2020 Prieuré-Lichine is elegant and nuanced, just as it was en primeur. Even so, I had hoped to see another step forward in this vintage, and it’s just not there. For example, the aromatics aren’t quite as focused as they could be. Prieuré-Lichine is still a very good wine, but it is not all it could be. (Antonio Galloni)

Tasted on two separate occasions, the 2020 Château Prieuré-Lichine has a solid perfume of redcurrants, blueberries, smoky oak, and chocolate that shows more and more floral nuances with time in the glass. Nicely textured on the palate, with medium to full-bodied richness, it has solid mid-palate depth, ripe tannins, and a great finish. It needs a solid 4–6 years of bottle age but is another impressive 2020 with real class. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Ripe and focused, with a violet and alder frame that marries well to the core of lightly steeped plum and black currant fruit flavors. The alder edge asserts itself on the finish, though the fruit keeps pace just a half-step behind. This should settle in with some cellaring. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2020 Prieure-Lichine offers up notes of fresh redcurrants, blackcurrant pastilles, boysenberries and dried Provence herbs, plus wafts of tobacco leaf and pencil shavings. Medium-bodied, the palate delivers a great intensity of pure black and red fruit flavors, framed by grainy tannins and a lively backbone, finishing long with a refreshing herbal lift.

The 2022 Château Prieuré-Lichine offers a pure, vibrant bouquet of red and blue fruits as well as plenty of cedarwood, tobacco, and a hint of iron. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, with nicely integrated tannins as well as outstanding overall balance, this well-made, impeccably balanced Margaux will drink nicely with just short-term cellaring. It's easily in the same ballpark quality-wise as the 2018, 2019, and 2020, all of which are beautiful wines. Tasted twice.

Offering up generous amounts of sweet berries, orange rind and licorice, the 2022 Prieuré-Lichine is medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, with a lively core of fruit that's framed by powdery tannins that assert themselves on the youthfully firm finish. This heavily morcellated estate (amounting to some 125 different parcels) continues to benefit from a more rigorous selection and better attention to detail regarding harvest dates.

Dark cherry and blackberry fruit shows a steeped edge, while bramble, warm earth and roasted cedar notes fill in through the ever-so-slightly grainy finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Best from 2026 through 2032. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 15,000 cases made.
