A fresh and linear red with blackberries, blackcurrants and dark chocolate. Medium-bodied, very polished and refined on the palate with a lively finish. Linear at the end. This has more cabernet franc than normal. Malbec, merlot, syrah, cabernet franc, petit verdot, and cabernet sauvignon. Drink or hold.

The 2021 Red Blend comes from Campo de los Andes in the Uco Valley. It is a blend of 55% Malbec, 16% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Syrah, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, 70% aged in a third new oak barrels with the remainder going into steel tanks. A rich purple in hue. The nose presents a complex array of aromas ranging from plum and blackberry to violets, ash and oak. It's dry and juicy on the palate, with refined tannins and well-balanced acidity. Concentrated and long-lasting, the cool vintage brought an extra dimension. (Joaquín Hidalgo)

Clos de los Siete almost never fails, and this version from a ripe and easy vintage is just that: ripe and easy. Inky blackberry and black currant aromas show a waft of campfire creosote, while this feels big and round, with plenty of mouth-blackening fruit. Oak-aided blackberry, cassis and chocolate flavors come with a hint of herbs, while the finish is smooth and mild. Drink through 2023.

The 2018 Clos De Los Siete combines grapes from a large property of the same name in Campo de los Andes, Uco Valley in a blend of 55% Malbec, 19% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Syrah, 2% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc. The assemblage here is made by Michel Rolland and his team, 70% of which is aged in up to 1/3 use French barrels. Dense, dark violet in color. The nose is complex in the Bordelais style, presenting aromas of plum, blackcurrant and blackberry with hints of blueberry, oak and herbs. The 2018 is free-flowing on the palate with good energy and volume. It’s mild tannins still have enough energy to lend shape and intense flavor. An interesting, potent wine. Drink in two years.

The 2020 Clos de Los Siete has a darker and riper profile, juicy and round, with volume and glycerin but with fine tannins and refreshing flavors. It was produced with a blend of 55% Malbec, 16% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Syrah, 3% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, slightly higher in Malbec in this warmer year. Production was shorter, 805,000 bottles. It was bottled in March 2022.

Dense and powerful, with plenty of loamy notes to the dark cherry and roasted plum flavors that show creamy accents. Ends with dark chocolate on the finish. Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2024. 650,000 cases made, 22,400 cases imported.
