Leads with warm ganache and fig bread notes, followed quickly by raspberry reduction accents that take some time to unwind. Showcases plum pâte de fruit, sanguine and black licorice notes, with a flicker of Turkish coffee underscoring the finish and giving this a decidedly dark profile in the end. This has good concentration and energy to the dense core of dark fruit and bitter cherry, with great poise and elegance despite its ripeness (an impressive feat for the vintage). Guided by finely crushed mineral accents and tannins, this reveals pretty high-toned floral notes and leafy tobacco. Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre, Cinsault, Vaccarese and Muscardin. The 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes jumps at you with perfumed orange rind, fresh violets and ripe red and black fruits, all paired with licorice and spice box aromas. Neatly maintaining balancing freshness, velvety tannins envelop the 2022. It checks out with a refined and juicy conclusion. (Nicolas Greinacher)

More garrigue, Provençal herbs, pepper, and ripe framboise and cherry notes all emerge from the 2021 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes, another beautiful 2021 from this estate that has a gorgeous sense of purity and elegance. (Jeb Dunnuck)

The 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes is along the same lines yet brings more mid-palate depth and richness. Kirsch liqueur, orange blossom, white pepper, Provençal garrigue, and gorgeous spice notes all shine here, and it's medium to full-bodied, has a deep, layered mouthfeel, ultra-fine tannins, and a great finish. Based on 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 4% Vaccarèse, 3% Mourvèdre, and 3% Cinsault, it's a gem of a wine and in this is vintage appears to be a solid step up over the classic cuvée. (Jeb Dunnuck)

Medium ruby-hued and cut from the same cloth, yet with slightly more focus, purity, and precision, the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes offers ripe black raspberries, mulled cherries, pepper, blood orange, and floral nuances. It's medium to full-bodied, with a pure, layered, elegant yet focused mouthfeel, and reveals plenty of tannins and a gorgeous finish. Drink 2025-2038.

Intense rose petal, wild strawberry, dried herbs and licorice set the stage for the 2023 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes. It’s a full-bodied, velvety red that’s loaded with intensity and freshness. The potential here is quite promising. 91-93 points.

The 2020 Châteauneuf Du Pape Vieilles Vignes is cut from the same cloth as the base cuvée yet brings more mid-palate depth and richness. It’s a classic 2020, with elegance, freshness, and purity as well as loads of Provençal charm. It should drink nicely right out of the gate yet also evolve for 10–15 years.
