Inky purple, staining the glass, the 2021 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is hard to ignore. It shows an intense dried cherry, cedar shaving and clove blend. This is a sweeping and dramatic wine. Vibrant acidity excites the vividly ripe red and blue fruits, and sweet spice saturates toward the close. For all of its power and depth, this cleans up beautifully, citrus-tinged and crunchy with dusty tannins that resonate. Well done. (Eric Guido)
