Critical Acclaim

JD 93 Jeb Dunnuck 2020 vintage 6/4/2013

The more Merlot-dominated 2020 D2 offers a vivid purple/ruby hue as well as beautiful notes of ripe black cherries, tobacco leaf, sandalwood, and spring flowers. I love its purity, and it has terrific mid-palate depth, ripe tannins, and a great finish. The blend is 61% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, brought up in 60% new oak. (Jeb Dunnuck)

RP 93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2022 vintage

The 2022 D2 is a blend of 56% Merlot, 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, matured for 20 months in 47% new French oak. Opaque ruby-purple in the glass, it has pure scents of chocolate-covered cherries, lavender, thyme and mint. The full-bodied palate is elegantly styled with mineral-laced flavors, powdery tannins, juicy acidity and a long, layered finish. 25,175 cases were made.

RP 93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2020 vintage

The 2020 D2 Proprietary Red Wine was made from 61% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. The nose is as brilliant as always, with focused, dark red fruits, hints of black cherry skin and oak essence that sways out of the glass. Full-bodied and mineral tensioned, the palate offers fine-grained tannins with succulent healthy fruit flavors before ending with a fresh, food-friendly finish. At these prices, buy the entire case. About 108,000 bottles were filled after the wine rested in 68% new French oak for 20 months. Bravo!

JS 92 James Suckling 2022 vintage

Cherries, currants, chocolate biscuits and sage on the nose of this polished, layered red. It’s full-bodied and bright, with medium-firm, fine-grained tannins. Fresh finish. 56% merlot, 32% cabernet sauvignon, 6% malbec, 4% petit verdot and 2% cabernet franc. Try from 2026.

SP 92 Wine Spectator 2022 vintage December 31, 2025

Precise and handsomely structured, this red offers refined flavors of black cherry and currant laced with espresso, clove and dusty herb tones while persisting toward fine-grained tannins. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2033. 24,150 cases made.

JS 91 James Suckling 2020 vintage Wednesday, May 24, 2023

Ripe and fruity nose of mulberries and blueberries with violets and candied orange peel. Medium-bodied, vibrant and succulent, with crunchy tannins and an expressive, flavorful finish. Drink now. (James Suckling)

SP 91 Wine Spectator 2020 vintage February 6, 2023

Well-framed and precise, with handsomely layered blackberry, tobacco and black olive flavors that build tension toward medium-grained tannins. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2030. 9,800 cases made. (Tim Fish)

JD 91 Jeb Dunnuck 2022 vintage

The 2022 D2 is a slatey, herbal, Merlot-dominant Bordeaux blend with 32% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Malbec, 4% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. One of the producer’s original reds, made in larger case productions, it is full-bodied, densely black-fruited, and well-integrated in terms of oak, spending 20 months aging in French oak, 25% new. Drink now through 2030.
