This powerhouse unleashes rich waves of black licorice, cherry paste and spiced plum. Shows impressive texture and energy, with black tea tannins bringing good form to the simmering, opulent palate. I loved the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape, a classic Southern Rhône readers will love to have in their cellars. Medium to full-bodied, incredibly elegant, and even pretty, it has textbook red and black fruits, peppery garrigue, violets, and spice-like aromas and flavors. It’s always interesting when tasting through the wines from this estate to see the change in the tannins and just overall level of elegance when you move from their Côtes du Rhône to their Châteauneuf du Papes, and this is unquestionably worth seeking out and cellaring. A blend of mostly Grenache, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape was brought up mostly in foudre with a small portion in barrels. Semi-opaque ruby-hued, with lots of floral, spicy, peppery, Provençal aromas and flavors, it's medium to full-bodied, has a ripe, sexy, yet weightless mouthfeel, silky tannins, and a great finish. It's a gorgeous, classic Châteauneuf Du Pape that will drink well right out of the gate yet still evolve for two decades. 92-94 points. (Jeb Dunnuck)

The normal blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and the rest a mix of varieties, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape is deeper ruby-hued and offers a killer perfume of red and black fruits, flowery incense, Provençal garrigue, and spice. Medium to full-bodied, with a terrific sense of elegance and ripe tannins, it's very much in the pure, elegant, seamless style of the vintage and has so much to love. Drink bottles over the coming 10-12 years.

Sensual and perfumed, the 2023 Chateauneuf du Pape from Domaine de la Janasse is a striking success, especially when compared to the more muscular, introverted 2022. Bursting with aromas of violets, spring flowers, dark cherries and garrigue, it’s medium- to full-bodied and dense yet vibrant, with a fleshy core of fruit framed by velvety tannins and a satiny, seamless texture. The finish is long, harmonious and gently spiced. A blend of 65% Grenache Noir, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault, it was matured for 12 months in a combination of foudres and used barrels (20%), offering a beautifully integrated and balanced expression of the vintage.

Juicy red and black berries, pepper, leather, and savory garrigue aromatics define the 2023 Châteauneuf Du Pape, a blend of 65% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, and 5% Cinsault that was partially destemmed and aged 12 months in 80% foudre and 20% used barrels. It's medium-bodied, has a focused, elegant mouthfeel, ripe, polished tannins, and outstanding length. Beautifully balanced with remarkable purity and elegance, it will evolve for 15-20 years in cold cellars. There are roughly 2,083 cases produced. Drink 2025-2045.

Leading off the 2019 Châteauneuf du Papes, the 2019 Châteauneuf Du Pape reveals a ruby/purple, almost opaque hue to go with a beautifully Provençal, medium to full-bodied style as well as classy notes of peppery garrigue, spiced meat, black raspberries, and jammy blackberries. Nicely textured, with a terrific mid-palate as well as a great finish, this is a rock-solid, classic, traditional cuvée from this estate that will be approachable with short-term cellaring and evolve for 15–20 years or more.
