Critical Acclaim
Perfumed and floral, with alluring high-toned cherry pie and raspberry tart interwoven with warm earth, licorice root and a refined iron mineral streak. The structure sneaks up on the palate, cleaning up the finish and driving good length. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2032. 350 cases imported. (Kristen Bieler)
The 2022 Chateauneuf du Pape is all Grenache, made in concrete. Full-bodied and silky, it's redolent of cherries, raspberries and even a touch of lavender. It looks to be lovely stuff. 92-94 points. (Joe Czerwinski)
There’s an earthy, loamy character alongside the red currant, mocha-dusted cherry and juniper notes in this plush, spicy and gentle-edged red, which is opulent yet shows a nicely lifted feel midpalate spiked with tobacco and singed anise. A few years of bottle age have smoothed and softened the tannins, which still firmly guide the finish, echoing with bitter black tea and graphite. Long and harmonious. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Drink now through 2030. 1,300 cases made, 400 cases imported.
Leading off the 2020 Châteauneuf du Papes, the 2020 Châteauneuf du Pape from Giraud is 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 5% Mourvedre. It shows the pure, supple, charming style of the vintage perfectly and is medium to full-bodied, has soft tannins, lots of darker berry fruits, notes of sappy garrigue and pepper, and outstanding length. A quintessential Châteauneuf du Pape, it will continue drinking well for 10-12 years. (Jeb Dunnuck)
Moving to the 2022s, the 2022 Châteauneuf Du Pape Tradition is based on 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 5% Mourvèdre. Loaded with notions of black raspberries, roasted garrigue, spring flowers, and ground pepper, this layered, elegant, and straight-up gorgeous base Châteauneuf du Pape has fine tannins, medium to full body, and outstanding length. It shows the forward, layered, elegant style of the vintage nicely and will deliver the goods right out of the gate yet evolve nicely for 10-12 years. 91-93 points. (Jeb Dunnuck)
Vinified from certified organic grapes, the 2022 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition unwinds with delicate orange blossom, raspberry, strawberry, licorice and dried herbs. Concentrated and expressive, ripe tannins and elevated flavor concentration mark the palate. Finishing with persistence, the 2022 comes across as quite focused. (Nicolas Greinacher)
