Don Julio Don Julio 70 Añejo Claro NV 750ml

Billed as the world’s first white añejo, it indeed has an unusual clear appearance, hence the name “claro.” Created to celebrate Don Julio’s 70th anniversary, this limited edition bottling, aged for 18 months, has powerful charred oak, honey and vanilla notes, and a banana-like finish.

New review. Crystal clear; sediment free clarity. For an anejo it's surprisingly neutral in the opening whiffs, except for a peanut butter quality and maybe a bit of dill; later inhalations after another seven minutes of air contact don't produce many new results so I move on. Entry is solid, oaky, vanilla-like and gently sweet and creamy; midpalate is very firm in structure, more dry than sweet, slightly toasted and rich. Ends on a cake frosting-like sweet note, then it turns herbal. I was prepared to give three stars then the midplalate are finish pushed me to four. Not quite sure though why a clear anejo is necessary.
