Critical Acclaim

SP 93 Wine Spectator 2017 vintage June 30, 2022

A dense, solidly built red, with wild herb, eucalyptus and soy aromas enveloping the core of cherry and plum fruit. Balanced and lingers nicely on the fruity, savory and tobacco-tinged aftertaste. Best from 2025 through 2040. 3,208 cases made, 100 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

SP 93 Wine Spectator 2020 vintage

Round and open, featuring cherry, raspberry, floral and earth aromas and flavors, with a hint of orange peel. This is sleek and balanced, with a lasting impression of ripe, crunchy fruit on the finish. Best from 2027 through 2042.

RP 93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2017 vintage

The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is balanced and bright with lots of luscious primary fruit. The wine opens to soft tones of cherry, dried raspberry, crushed flowers and spice. It moves over the palate with mid-weight intensity, imparting plenty of Sangiovese freshness along the way. The tannins are sweet and carefully integrated in this production of 38,500 bottles.

JS 92 James Suckling 2017 vintage Thursday, November 4, 2021

Sweet berries and dried flowers with cedar and sandalwood. Medium-to full-bodied with chewy yet fine tannins that are long and persistent. It’s a little tight at the end, suggesting that another two or three years of bottle age will give it a little more open and refined character. Try after 2023.

VN 90 Vinous 2017 vintage Dec 2021

The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino wafts up with a wild, spunky bouquet that is unique and unexpected but quite enjoyable, as peppery herbs come together with rose hips, raspberries and smoky crushed stones. This is soft-textured and soothing to the senses, as a pure mix of red berries and plums gives way to pretty inner florals. It leaves the palate dry with youthful tension, while chewy tannins hold firm, nicely offset by a refreshing bump of residual acidity. Though a bit on the exotic side, this is a good effort for the vintage that will require only a short stay in the cellar to show its best. (Eric Guido)
