Critical Acclaim

JS 96 James Suckling 2022 vintage

Bright aromas of fresh raspberries, violets, graphite and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with glossy tannins and balanced acidity, giving flavors of dried strawberries, cassia bark, citrus peel and dried herbs. Very well constructed, with underlying tension. Drink or hold.

JS 94 James Suckling 2020 vintage

Beautifully ripe strawberry, bark and pine needle aromas with dried flowers. Dried tea, too. Orange peel. Medium to full body. Plenty of soft tannins. Earth. Granite. Pumice. Plenty of flavor. Very structured. Broad spine. Drink after 2026.

WE 92 Wine Enthusiast 2020 vintage

Handsome black cherry and black tea flavors ride a good structure of moderate tannins in this concentrated, deep and complex-tasting wine. Accents of rose petals, cloves and redwood forest make it interesting to sip and savor.

SP 92 Wine Spectator 2020 vintage

Offers gently mulled mulberry and blackberry fruit that hold center stage, with nice briary energy running underneath. Shows a light kiss of toast and anise on the finish, as the fruit lingers steadily. Drink now through 2028. 12,770 cases made.

SP 91 Wine Spectator 2019 vintage September 30, 2021

Fine-textured and minerally, offering dried berry and cherry flavors that show a light toastiness, with loam and sanguine accents on the long, richly spiced finish. Drink now through 2024. 25,790 cases made. (Kim Marcus)

VN 91 Vinous 2019 vintage Jan 2022

The 2019 Pinot Noir Grace Benoist Ranch is brawny, deep and full of explosive energy. Expressive floral and savory overtones play off a core of succulent dark fruit. Blueberry, sage, lavender and licorice are all kicked up in this complex, extroverted Carneros Pinot. (Antonio Galloni)

RP 91 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2022 vintage

The best value of the current release Etude Pinot Noirs is the 2022 Pinot Noir Grace Benoist Ranch, blended from numerous parcels on the 1,500-acre Carneros property. Picked before and during the early September heat wave, it's reasonably floral and impressively complex, with scents of rose petals, black cherries, cranberries and cinnamon on the nose. The medium to full-bodied palate boasts a fine, silky feel, and there's ample length on the finish.

JD 90 Jeb Dunnuck 2022 vintage

Spiced darker cherries, loamy earth, savory herbs, and dried flower notes all emerge from Etude's 2022 Pinot Noir Grace Benoist Ranch, a medium-bodied, spicy, complex, satisfying Pinot Noir. It's nicely balanced, has ample Pinot Noir charm and character, soft tannins, and a solid 7-8 years of prime drinking.

RP 90 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2019 vintage

Etude’s big-volume Pinot offering, the 2019 Pinot Noir Grace Benoist Ranch (more than 25,000 cases) offers up black cherries and red raspberries, plus a hint of cola. Medium to full-bodied, it’s plump and pleasantly silky, but it’s less intense and structured than the more limited-production wines.

SP 90 Wine Spectator 2022 vintage February 2025

This displays a taut, focused core of raspberry and bitter cherry coulis laced with savory, red tea and rose hip accents. Streamlined finish. Drink now through 2027. 25,046 cases made.
