The nose is cool and fresh, with aromas of blackberry tea, wild fennel and pomegranate, while the palate stays tangy and fresh but also adds a bright liveliness, with flavors of tea leaf, citrus, wild herbs and tart and sweet black fruit. Tannins are like big, polished, smooth paving stones.

The Fabio Motta 2023 Bolgheri Rosso Le Pievi is a blend of 50% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese and 10% Syrah, fermented and aged entirely in cement. There is a point of ripeness on the bouquet recalling blackberry marmalade or baked plum, yet it is well integrated across the wine’s medium- to full-bodied texture. Vinified without oak to preserve purity of fruit and site expression, the 2023 finishes with pretty freshness. With 26,000 bottles produced, Le Pievi offers an accessible and characterful interpretation of Bolgheri Rosso.

Graphite, blackberry, plum and cedar flavors highlight this fluid red. The intense dark fruit notes emerge with air, and there’s balance and fine length guided by vibrant acidity. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Syrah. Drink now through 2030. 2,700 cases made, 400 cases imported.
