A blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2018 Bolgheri Rosso Zizzolo is a bright and slightly downplayed or underripe wine. The focus here is on the freshness of the fruit rather than richness or extraction, and the cooler vintage has done its part to shape these results. Sour cherry and tart berry cede to spice, tar, tobacco and potting soil. Have it with a vegetarian pizza. Some 25,000 bottles were made. (Monica Larner)
