The largest production, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petit Verdot, and 1% Merlot that’s from both mountain and valley floor sites. It’s a classic 2021 with its fresher, focused, perfumed style as well as medium to full-bodied richness, lots of currant and black cherry fruits, some tobacco and graphite notes, building tannins, and a great finish. Freemark Abbey’s 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is dark, supple and inviting. Black cherry, plum, mocha and licorice give this open-knit Cabernet tons of up-front appeal. Silky tannins wrap around the juicy, inviting finish. The 2018 is attractive, but it is also a bit soft. I would prefer to drink it over the near and medium term. (Antonio Galloni)

There are roughly 25,000 cases of the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, which is sourced from all over the valley. Certainly a beautiful wine worth seeking out (and it should be easy to find), it has ample ripe cherry and cassis fruits as well as spicy oak and tobacco nuances. Sourced from estate sites in Oakville and Calistoga and incorporating purchased fruit as well, there are 11,000 cases of the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, about half the usual volume. Aged in just under 50% new French oak, it easily marries cherries with notes of vanilla and brown sugar. It’s full-bodied and concentrated, richly tannic but ripe, with a lingering, dusty finish. There are an impressive 20,000 cases of the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley, a blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon with 8% Merlot, 2% each Malbec and Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc, aged in 40% new oak. About half of the fruit is sourced from estate (organically grown) vineyards, while the balance is purchased. Lovely herb-inflected cassis and hints of ripe cherries appear on the nose, while the palate is medium to full-bodied, silky and fine, but with some substance and concentration, finishing with soft, dusty tannins. Good concentration, balance, length.

Ripe, fresh and forward, with a core of black cherry and plum compote threaded with light licorice and apple wood notes. A flash of violet checks in on the finish. Drink now through 2036. 11,980 cases made.

Blended with small amounts of Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, this is an approachable, well-made appellation wine that shows a backbone of structure and power. Supple tannins wrap around a thick midpalate of black and red currant, cassis and toasted oak, finishing in clove and cedar. (Virginie Boone)
