RP 95 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2021 vintage Jun 30, 2025

Do you have a favorite pair of jeans or a favorite dress that you keep in your closet for all occasions? That's the equivalent of this wine. The G.D. Vajra 2021 Barolo Albe is an enormously versatile expression of Nebbiolo, with an affordable price, that offers more value for your money than most Barolos out there. The bouquet focuses on dark berry, pressed flower and crushed stone. It offers good sharpness over broad lines. The mouthfeel is medium-plus in texture and it closes with silky, accessible tannins. Fruit comes from three cru sites: Coste di Vergne, Fossati and La Volta. (Monica Larner)

An elegant style, this red delivers strawberry, raspberry, cherry, rose and eucalyptus aromas and flavors. Supple, with a light grain to its tannins, this builds discreetly to the lingering finish. Best from 2027 through 2045. 7,100 cases made, 3,500 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

RP 94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2020 vintage

You can't beat this value. The G.D. Vajra 2020 Barolo Albe is buttoned up with fresh primary fruit, and the wine does not have that hint of over-ripeness that is found across this vintage. The fruit is dark and savory, and there is a big mineral component to match, but the bouquet is nicely redolent of dark currant, plum, granite and a raspy dry note that brings crushed shale to mind. The tannins are quite impactful, and they give this wine extra runway for moderate bottle aging.

SP 94 Wine Spectator 2020 vintage November 30, 2024

This effusive red displays cherry, raspberry, rose, iron, juniper and hay flavors, underscored by vibrant acidity. Harmonious and supple in texture, with a long aftertaste of red fruit, mineral and floral elements. Best from 2028 through 2049. 7,000 cases made, 3,500 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

JD 94 Jeb Dunnuck 2021 vintage 5/1/2025

The 2021 Barolo Albe continues to be one of the best values the region has to offer and punches far above its weight class in this vintage. The nose is ripe with fresh, layered notes of pure red cherries, fresh flowers, anise, and refined spices. The palate is fantastic and pure, with a long finish. This is one of the best vintages of this wine I have tasted to date, revealing great definition of structure and a refreshing feel that makes this a fantastic go-to option to check in on again and again as it ages. I would snap these up and get a case or two if you can. Drink over the coming 15-20 years.

WE 94 Wine Enthusiast 2021 vintage 11/1/2025

This is Barolo's soul in a glass, capturing the region's magic through carefully blended vineyards. Wild cherries and crushed raspberries dance with fresh mint and bay leaf, while sweet and savory spices swirl beneath. The palate sparks with bright acidity, carrying crunchy red fruits, both fresh and dried, but always vibrant. Fine tannins lay down elegant rails for the wine to travel, showing why Barolo captures the world's imagination. Drink Now - 2045

WE 93 Wine Enthusiast 2020 vintage

The nose is a harmonious blend of red fruits, featuring warmed cherries macerated in sweet and savory spices of cinnamon and clove. Dried raspberries and red currant add depth, while a distinct dried leaf and floral component entices. Vibrant cherry, cranberry, and strawberry stand tall on the palate, with thyme and bay leaf adding subtle herbaceous undertones that balance the flavors. Mouthwatering acidity keeps the wine lively, and approachable tannins allow you to enjoy this wine now and give you the tools to pair with a variety of cuisines. Drink Now - 2040

JD 93 Jeb Dunnuck 2022 vintage 4/8/2026

A medium ruby color, the 2022 Barolo Albe marks the 50th vintage of this cuvée. Aromas of fresh cherries, spice, and ripe orange peel lead into a medium-bodied palate with purity and polish. Already quite appealing, this is a wine I would happily order by the glass, and it should drink beautifully over the coming decade. Drink 2026-2036.

VN 91 Vinous 2021 vintage Jan 2025

The 2021 Barolo Albe is bright, aromatic and vibrant in the glass. Medium in body and super-refined, the 2021 is a delight. This is one of the more understated recent vintages I can remember tasting. It’s a terrific introduction to this range. (Antonio Galloni)
