Plenty of smoke and oak in this Tennessee whisky. The 103 proof is very noticeable on both the first sniff and sip. Cut it with a drop or two of water; this will have the dual effect of opening up the delightful aromas of dried fruits and baking spices (good clues of the rye used in the mash bill) and calming down that otherwise overpowering proof. Or add a couple of ice cubes and, as they melt, allow the character of this spirit to change as you take your time getting to know this “sippin’ whiskey.”
