The relatively high alcohol content of port (18% in this case) can be a bit overwhelming to the uninitiated, but after allowing the nose and palate to adjust, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how approachable this style of wine is. This deep burgundy-colored wine reveals aromas of chocolate, plum, and cherry (when served at room temperature). Initial sips suggest more red and purple fruit, chocolate, spice, and even cola. The lingering warm and slightly oily finish leaves you wishing you had tried this sooner. This port complements rich sweets, or it will do just fine as a standalone aperitif or dessert.
