Critical Acclaim
Delivers a lovely, polished stream of cassis, plum and blackberry fruit flavors lined with warm vanilla, black licorice and sweet tobacco accents, with solid focus and grip on the finish. Still youthfully toasty but pleasurable now if you want that character. Hold this you want more elegance and nuance. -- Non-blind Groth Cabernet vertical (August 2024). Drink now through 2038. 12,000 cases made.
Ripe blackberries, sweet spices, crushed walnuts, cedar and wet stones. Some iodine, too. Full-bodied, firm and structured with chalky texture to the tannins and juicy acidity. Polished and even. Better after 2025. (James Suckling)
This young wine is impressively concentrated, tannic and tight at this stage of its development, but it carries the proper amount of dark fruit, dark chocolate and heady oak spices to gain complexity with age. The tannins are full and a bit edgy for current drinking. Best from 2029.
An impressive value for an Oakville AVA Cabernet, Groth's 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon is a bit reticent and slow out of the chute, but aeration brings out nice aromas of black cherries and subtle cedar notes. A blend of 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, it's medium- to full-bodied but streamlined and silky, showing impressive length and elegance for the vintage. The new-oak component comes in at 45%, imparting just enough structure to ensure a decade's worth of drinkability. With more than 20,000 cases produced, it should be relatively easy to track down a few bottles.
Solidly ripe and plush in feel, offering caressing flavors of blackberry and black currant compote laced with loam and sweet tobacco notes, plus a flash of menthol. Generous through the finish, with the structure nicely melded into the fruit. Oakville 101
Leading off the reds, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville is deep purple-hued, with solid aromatics of ripe black fruits, tobacco, pen ink, and graphite. It’s medium to full-bodied, has a pure, layered, elegant mouthfeel, fine tannins, and outstanding length. A classic, fresher, solid Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, it will evolve for 10–12+ years if well stored. It has lots to love. (Jeb Dunnuck)
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a fabulous introduction to the Groth wines. Soft, curvy and open-knit, the 2021 is already quite pleasing. Succulent dark red cherry/plum fruit, rose petal, cinnamon and a kick of sweet French oak all meld together. This pliant, seductive Cabernet Sauvignon is quite the charmer. Best of all, it will drink well right out of the gate. (Antonio Galloni)

The soft, generous gush of fruit marks the vintage, with caressing boysenberry and mulberry notes that glide through, plus singed anise and dried violet hints. Offers up-front appeal before steadily losing energy through the finish. Drink now through 2029. 20,500 cases made.
