Critical Acclaim

JS 95 James Suckling 2018 vintage Tuesday, February 2, 2021

Full-bodied with lots of layered fruit and round, creamy tannins. The palate shows lovely ripe-berry character with chocolate and hazelnut and a long, flavorful finish. Hints of black truffles. Plenty going on here with a firm framework that gives the wine form and interest. Try it after 2022. (James Suckling)

JS 95 James Suckling 2019 vintage

This shows notes of ripe blackberries and blackcurrants with hints of licorice, cloves, walnuts and chocolate. It has full body and a velvety tannin structure. Juicy and vibrant fruit on the palate with a touch of earthiness. Smooth and delicious. Long, fruity finish. Very pure fruit. Try after 2024.

WE 94 Wine Enthusiast 2018 vintage 4/1/2022

Showing balance within a full-bodied frame, this wine is juicy in blueberry, black cherry and a hint of wild game. Oak adds spice and length, giving the plush, polished tannins room to expand and grip as a finishing touch of coffee bean builds. (Virginie Boone)

JD 93 Jeb Dunnuck 2018 vintage 1/27/2021

A darker, meatier wine than the Rubicon release, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon offers lots of blackcurrants, leafy tobacco, chocolate, and damp earth-like aromas to go with a medium to full-bodied, mouth-filling, concentrated style on the palate. It shows the vintage’s purity as well as its freshness, yet brings a rich, expansive vibe that’s a joy to drink. Give bottles 3–4 years and enjoy over the following two decades. (Jeb Dunnuck)

RP 92 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2019 vintage

The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Cabernet Franc. Deep garnet-purple in color, it springs from the glass with vibrant notes of crushed black raspberries, black plums and blackcurrant pastilles, plus hints of underbrush and bouquet garni. Medium to full-bodied with intense, pure black fruit flavors, the fruit is well-framed by ripe, grainy tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing with a skip in its step.

SP 92 Wine Spectator 2019 vintage

Leads with a nice sweet bay leaf hint, followed quickly by singed cedar and loam before the core of reserved red and black currant fruit finally starts to unfold. Warm earth-framed finish. A touch old school, with some muscular character. This should age nicely. Best from 2024 through 2034. 10,300 cases made.

SP 89 Wine Spectator 2018 vintage August 19, 2021

Juicy and direct, with a mix of steeped red and black currant fruit spiked with savory, bay leaf and singed cedar. Just a touch chewy through the finish, with the toast crowding a bit. Drink now through 2026. 13,361 cases made. (James Molesworth)
