Color is an eye-catching burnt sienna/deep auburn; superb clarity. Feral opening aromas charge from the glass in semisweet waves of dried chrysanthemum, pomegranate, red cherry, cedar plank; second whiffs detect a pleasing graipness that's raising and woody at the same time as the abv comes more into play. Entry is round, satiny in texture, leafy, vegetal, fiery on the edges of the palate, yet juicy and orchard fruit ripe; midpalate is oily, creamy, lush, oaky, spicy (vanilla extract) resiny, raisiny, juicy, tobacco-like. Finishes long, ripe, fruity, and medium hot. I've always liked JD Single Barrel bottlings but this takes the trophy as the best to date.
