Critical Acclaim
The 2023 Fleurie Clos de la Grand'Cour Vieilles Vignes, sourced from vines that are 70+ years old, underwent a 10-month maturation in used barrels, resulting in a wine with deeper, sappier notes of blackberry and cherry compared to its younger vine counterpart, paired with nuances of sweet soil, crushed petals, clove and mandarin oil. Out of the lineup, this wine holds the most volume, showcasing a developed mid-palate supported by fine-grained, hydrated tannins and a foundation of ripe acidity. Upon entry, the wine expands and fills the palate in a rounded, enveloping manner, gradually making space for the tannins that begin to gain traction leading to a distinctive textural finish. This is a wine that's so naturally balanced that it is always a pleasure to drink, though it will certainly stand to benefit from further aging.
The 2023 Brouilly Cuvée Vieilles Vignes consists of old (up to 90 years) and young vines on clay-limestone soils. This aged in demi-muids. The bouquet is understated, with raspberry and wild strawberry scents, hints of crushed stone and graphite. The palate is balanced, fresh and vibrant, with crisp acidity and a tensile, piquant finish. Not enormous in length, this is a delicious Brouilly.
