Critical Acclaim
The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is mostly Martini clone from the core of the estate. A heady, ample wine, the 2019 is endowed with striking opulence. Blackberry jam, chocolate, spice, new leather, licorice and mocha shows tremendous depth. Attractive floral notes emerge with a bit of aeration, adding brightness. The contours are remarkably soft for a young mountain Cabernet. These wines age beautifully, their youthful opulence notwithstanding, so I would not be in a rush here. (Antonio Galloni)
Alluring, with steeped plum and cassis notes cruising through, backed by lively licorice snap, bramble and sweet tobacco accents. A long echo of singed alder permeates on the finish. Best from 2023 through 2034. 2,250 cases made. (James Molesworth)
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon is bold and fruity, with tons of forward appeal and lushness. Even so, it retains considerable freshness. Blueberry jam, spice, new leather, licorice and crème de cassis fill out the layers effortlessly. This is an especially open-knit, fruity style for Moon Mountain.

A richly fruited red, with lush flavors of plum and blackberry compote, this cruises steadily, offering flashes of warm earth, sweet bay, tobacco and licorice root. The fruit is polished, and the other elements show a little growl, creating a nice contrast throughout. Best from 2025 through 2036. 1,950 cases made.
The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon offers notes of cocoa, blackcurrants, pipe tobacco, forest herbs, and crushed lavender. Aged in about 60% new oak, it’s full on the palate, with a lovely, weightless feel, a velvety and well-managed creaminess to its texture, and good length on the finish. It’s a lovely wine, it has a more immediate feel but should have a wide drinking window over the coming 10-12 years. Kamen’s largest production wine, they make 1800-2200 cases.
