Pouring a bright red/orange hue, the 2021 Brunello Di Montalcino is expressive on the nose with notes of smoky incense, cranberries, orange peel, and dried Mediterranean herbs. The palate is elegant and medium-bodied, with focused intensity, refreshing acidity, and finely coiled tannins, and its more floral side comes through on the graceful finish. It’s a nicely detailed Brunello with a fresh, lifted feel. Drink 2026-2040.

An under-the-radar estate, La Palazzetta's star has been rising stadily over the last handful of vintages, with 201 another solid showing. Fourth-generation Luca Fanti managed to harness the warmth of the year with equal measures of power, ripeness and finesse. Captivating scents are redolent of cinnamon, mint and flinty stone. Iron and cloves punctuate the dark berry core, and firm, sculpted tannins lend marvelous definition. Punchy without being brawny, it lingers with savoury intensity. Drink 2027-2039.
