La Togata La Togata Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2016 750ml

Attractive aromas of ripe cherry and plum with some flowers follow through to a full body. The rich and intense tannins remain polished and long at the end. Needs time to come together. Best after 2023.

The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva La Togata is dark and moody in the glass, notes of plum sauce, cloves and tobacco forming its bouquet. It’s velvety-smooth with a pleasant inner sweetness that gives way to a more tactile mix of mineral-tinged red berries and balsamic spice. There’s admirable depth but also focus here as it tapers off long and moderately structured. La Togata’s 2016 Riserva could use two to three years of cellaring to soften, but also to allow its bouquet to come fully into focus. Very nice. (Eric Guido)
