Critical Acclaim
Notes of toasted spices, nut shell and bark with a deep dark berry backbone to it. Medium-bodied with firm, chewy tannins, that are ripe and velvety. Structured and broad with a lingering dark-fruited finish. Try from 2025. (James Suckling)
Sweet-berry and dried orange-peel aromas follow through to a medium to full body, round tannins and a juicy finish. Turns a little lean, but delicious already. Second wine. Drink after 2024.
The 2019 Le Lion La Fleur de Boüard, the third wine from the estate, is succulent and racy to the core. Blackberry, menthol, spice and chocolate are nicely kicked up. Silky contours give this supple Lalande de Pomerol plenty of charm.
Always impeccably made, the 2020 Le Lion De La Fleur De Boüard (which is the entry level wine) offers a beautifully pure perfume of red and blue fruits as well as leafy tobacco, leather, and chocolate. It’s balanced, medium-bodied, has ripe, silky tannins, and great finish. It’s well worth seeking out and a beautiful Right Bank that will keep for 7–8 years with no issues. (Jeb Dunnuck)
Deep purple-black in color, the 2020 Le Lion storms out of the glass with bold notes of baked black plums, blackberry pie and boysenberries, plus suggestions of dried Provence herbs, pencil shavings and unsmoked cigars. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers taut, muscular black fruits with a firm frame of grainy tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and earthy.
The 2020 Le Lion La Fleur de Boüard is a soft, easygoing wine to drink now and over the next few years. Dark cherry, dried herbs, mocha, dried herbs and crushed flowers open nicely in this attractive, soft Lalande-de-Pomerol. The 50% Cabernet Franc adds a light vegetal character that is not too intrusive but that is present. (Antonio Galloni)
