The 2021 Le Sughere di Frassinello is a beautiful wine. Crushed flowers, spice, mint, dried herbs and crushed red berry fruit lend a notable effusive presence to this mid-weight, succulent Maremma red. Espresso, lavender and mocha build into the resonant finish.

The 2020 Le Sughere di Frassinello is pliant and expressive right out of the gate. Succulent red cherry, plum, new leather, rose petal and mint are all kicked up in this tasty second wine from Rocca di Frassinello. Pretty floral notes brighten up the finish nicely.

A lush yet solidly built red highlighted by cherry and blackberry flavors. Shows eucalyptus, rosemary and menthol accents that lend complexity, along with a mineral underpinning. Offers fine balance and freshness. Sangioveto, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2030. 8,000 cases made, 5,500 cases imported.

A tight nose of crushed black fruit and lightly charred oak, following through to a medium-bodied palate with the same oaky fruit character and firm, fine-grain tannins. Well crafted and nicely poised, but needs to expand a little to gain both complexity and approachability. Sangiovese, merlot and cabernet sauvignon. Try from 2025.

Aromas of ripe dark berries, plum skin and blueberry jam with hints of blue flowers, dried oranges, spices and cedar. Juicy and tense on the palate, with firm tannins and impressive fruit concentration. Succulent and easy to drink. Drink now or hold.
