Critical Acclaim

WE 93 Wine Enthusiast 2022 vintage

The nose is fresh and balanced, with aromas of bing cherries, wild strawberries, fresh coffee and number 2 pencil. The palate stays balanced, with more cherries, strawberries and coffee, as well as denser notes of soil and dark chocolate, plus a compelling interplay between chalky tannins and electric acid. Always a great deal.

JD 93 Jeb Dunnuck 2023 vintage

The 2023 Le Volte Dell'Ornellaia is a saturated red/ruby color and is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 5% Petit Verdot, raised in used barrels for around 10 months. Always a wine leaning into the fruity and approachable side of things, the nose is fruity and fresh with aromas of candied flowers, crushed raspberries, red apples, and fresh stony earth. Medium to full-bodied, it’s very elegant with a joyful ease. It’s a great snapshot into these wines, which are mighty tasty now and have a lot of character. Drink 2025-2035.

SP 92 Wine Spectator 2022 vintage Oct 15, 2024

A fresh, expressive red, this also exhibits tension, lending energy to its black currant, cherry, licorice and cedar flavors. Graphite and salty accents add detail on the long, tightly wound finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2033. 15,000 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

SP 90 Wine Spectator 2023 vintage October 31, 2025

Cherry, black currant, wild herb, earth and smoke notes grace this succulent red. Balanced, with a firm grip of tannins on the smoky finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2030. 14,500 cases imported.

VN 90 Vinous 2023 vintage

The 2023 Le Volte dell'Ornellaia is a total delight. Fresh, aromatic and vibrant, Ornellaia's Sangiovese-based blend delivers the goods in an affordable package. A burst of bright, red-toned fruit opens first, followed by scents of tobacco, cedar and dried herbs. This classy, polished red is very nicely done. There's a bit more Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend these days, and it works quite well.
