Critical Acclaim

SP 97 Wine Spectator 2019 vintage

Leafy underbrush, earth and dusty mineral notes frame the core of cherry and raspberry flavors in this succulent red, which is supple, with a layer of chewy, chalky tannins coating the finish. Balanced overall, with a long, cherry-infused aftertaste. Best from 2027 through 2043. 3,290 cases made, 1,000 cases imported.

SP 97 Wine Spectator 2021 vintage March 11, 2026

Expressive flavors of ripe cherry, raspberry, pomegranate and rose are offset by thick, dusty tannins and accents of wild herbs and menthol in this fresh, layered red, which stays vibrant throughout, with a long aftertaste of red fruit and savory notes. Shows excellent aging potential. Best from 2029 through 2048. 3,333 cases made, 500 cases imported.

VN 96 Vinous 2021 vintage Nov 2025

The expressive 2021 Brunello di Montalcino opens with an array of crushed violet and lavender tones before giving way to citrus-laced blackberries and cherries. Cool-toned and wickedly fresh, it possesses a solid core of mineral-infused wild berry fruits and blue and purple inner florals that arch throughout. Sweet tannins frame the finish beautifully as hints of balsamic spice and pomegranate linger incredibly long. The 2021 is a radiant beast in need of taming. It's hard to put this glass down.

WE 95 Wine Enthusiast 2020 vintage 12/31/2025

The nose has a tangy, earthy feel, with aromas of cranberries, coffee grinds, hibiscus and blood orange. On the palate, leading flavors of cherries and strawberries are balanced by soil and herbs, before the finish pours more coffee over everything. Tannins are chalky, and acid is lively.

SP 94 Wine Spectator 2018 vintage June 30, 2023

Rich and deep, with base notes of plum and loamy earth offsetting cherry, hibiscus and eucalyptus flavors. Dense, with muscular tannins and lively acidity lending support. The long aftertaste evokes earth and Mediterranean brush. Best from 2026 through 2045. 3,300 cases made, 900 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

JS 94 James Suckling 2019 vintage

A sleek and structured red with black cherry, cedar and spice aromas and flavors. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and a chewy finish. Integrated and flexing. Drink after 2027.

VN 94 Vinous 2019 vintage

Medicinal blackberries, sweet sage, stone dust and candied oranges define the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino. This is juicy and vibrant with violet and lavender-tinged wild berry fruits and chalky mineral tones that form a saturation of minerality toward the close. A web of fine-grained tannins resonates as the 2019 finishes long and staining yet feels only lightly structured. Salted licorice suggestions linger on. This is a classy southern Montalcino Brunello from Lisini.

SP 94 Wine Spectator 2020 vintage June 30, 2025

A mix of graphite, cherry and raspberry aromas and flavors marks this expressive red. Earth, leather and wild herb accents add depth, and this shows the structure to develop for at least a decade or more. Its firm, dusty tannins will require time to integrate. Best from 2027 through 2045. 3,000 cases made, 1,000 cases imported.

RP 94 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2021 vintage Jan 29, 2026

The Lisini 2021 Brunello di Montalcino opens with pretty fruit, led by a touch of candied cherry that sits front and center, followed by lifted aromas of wild plum, sweet earth and pressed blue flower. I like the aromatic intensity and snappy, fruit-forward personality of this wine, which immediately draws you in. While the attack is generous and expressive, there is clear power and structure on the back end that give the wine depth and shape. This is a production of 40,000 bottles.

VN 93 Vinous 2017 vintage Dec 2021

The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is wild and spunky, presenting a mix of sweet rose and raspberry contrasted by savory herbs, hints of sawdust and white pepper. There are depths of tart red berries, spices and minerals on the palate, drenching the senses in primary concentration, yet zesty acids maintain notable balance. A coating of fine tannins lingers through the long, structured finale, along with echoes of violet, blueberry skins and licorice. There is simply so much going on in this glass, but it has the balance to improve through medium-term cellaring.

RP 93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2019 vintage

The Lisini 2019 Brunello di Montalcino has a dark and spicy bouquet with prune, cardamom, asphalt and wet stone. The wine is quite developed, and for that reason, I wouldn't suggest a very long drinking window. There is cola and dried rosemary sprig at the back. This is a dark Brunello with concentrated fruit to drink in the medium term. Production is 40,000 bottles.

RP 93 Robert Parker's Wine Advocate 2018 vintage

The 2018 Brunello di Montalcino is a wine of medium-soft volume and intensity with dark fruit, ripe cherry, black plum, spice and sweet potting soil. That theme of sweetness continues to the plush, lightly textured palate. The wine is ready to drink in the near or medium term; the tannins are round and ready, and it concludes with bright acidity. This is a release of 40,000 bottles.

VN 93 Vinous 2020 vintage Nov 2024

The 2020 Brunello di Montalcino is a total pleasure to take in, with its florist shop bouquet of perfumed violet, lavender and wet stone complementing dusty dried strawberries and hints of rhubarb. Zesty and fresh, sporting medium-bodied weight, it sweeps across the palate with tart wild berry fruit and lavender tones, propelled by zesty acidity. The 2020 doesn’t skip a beat, finishing with silty tannins, tinges of licorice and sour citrus and fantastic length.
