Critical Acclaim

JS 97 James Suckling 2020 vintage Monday, August 7, 2023

Very pretty orange peel with currants and blue berries. Flowers, too. Medium to full body with firm and velvety tannins that are polished and impressive. Fresh fruit at the end. Serious structure and brightness. Drink after 2026. (James Suckling)

JS 96 James Suckling 2022 vintage

A dark and complex wine with aromas of bramble fruit, graphite and minerals. Full-bodied, it shows huge extraction and supple fruit concentration. Firm tannins with a stern but good finish. Best after 2027.

WE 95 Wine Enthusiast 2020 vintage 11/1/2023

The nose starts off wild and herbal, expanding into the scents of a classroom, full of pencils and erasers and new leather bags, with a whiff of vanilla-cherry cola. The spiced, densely fruity palate shifts to the indulgence of a slice of cake soaked in rum. (Danielle Callegari)

SP 93 Wine Spectator 2020 vintage October 31, 2023

Well-marked by vanilla from the new oak, this also features flavors of black currant, blackberry, flowers and iron. Racy even, with vibrant acidity and a line of dusty tannins lingering on the finish. Comes together with air, so give this a few years to absorb the oak. Sangiovese and Merlot. Best from 2025 through 2040. 7,917 cases made, 850 cases imported. (Bruce Sanderson)

SP 92 Wine Spectator 2022 vintage

Well-marked by new oak, this red is saturated with cherry, plum, iron, vanilla, sweet Bourbon and resin aromas and flavors. Fluid and elegant, with assertive tannins shoring up the crisp, lingering finish. Sangiovese and Merlot. Best from 2027 through 2040. 10,833 cases made, 900 cases imported.
