About This Wine
Tasting Notes
Deep garnet-ruby with orange-brick reflections along the rim. Intensely perfumed with aromas of ripe wild cherry, red plum preserve, pressed rose petals, pipe tobacco, and crushed flint. Full-bodied and tightly woven on the palate, presenting concentrated flavors of dark red berries, dried cranberry, espresso bean, and Mediterranean herbs. Supported by firm, chalky Sangiovese tannins and vibrant natural acidity that provide balance and serious longevity through a long, savory finish.
Producer Notes
Founded in 1993 by author Ferenc Máté and painter Candace Máté, the estate covers 28 hectares in Santa Restituta, a prime high-altitude sector in southern Montalcino. Situated between 300 and 400 meters elevation on steep slopes of fossil-rich galestro, marl, and limestone soils, the vineyard was planted with guidance from renowned enologist Fabrizio Ciufoli, with viticulture managed by Eric Rossi. Hand-harvested with rigorous sorting and gentle extraction, Máté crafts small-production Brunellos that marry traditional Tuscan depth with elegant French oak refinement.
