Critical Acclaim
This always-excellent bottling from a vineyard planted in 1976 shines again in this vintage, offering aromas of clean peach, Key lime pie and airy custard. There's a deep penetration of acidity on the palate, where stony minerality wraps around lemon peel and tight stone-fruit flavors.—Matt Kettmann
Sourced from one of the estate’s original vineyards, a 55-acre site in the Edna Valley planted in 1976, the 2022 Chardonnay Edna Valley from Wolff Vineyard enjoys sizable influence from the Pacific Ocean and a long growing season. Barrel-fermented and undergoing full malolactic fermentation, it was aged in mostly neutral barrels and allowed to sit on the lees for 11 months. Mount Eden has made this wine since 1985, offering a textured expression of citrus and baked bread that is deliciously affordable and different from its main core. Drink now.
The 2021 Chardonnay Wolff Vineyard is bright, effusive and super-expressive. Tangerine oil, mint, white flowers and marzipan open nicely in this creamy, mid-weight Chardonnay. In 2021 the Wolff Chardonnay has a lightly tropical quality that is distinctive and appealing. This is the last vintage from the original plantings that date back to the 1970s, some of which have now been replanted.
The 2020 Chardonnay Wolff Vineyard is fabulous, something that is all the more remarkable considering the freakish year. Orange confit, pineapple, butter, apricot, tangerine and spice are all dialed up in this decidedly exotic, lush Chardonnay from Mount Eden. The 2020 is not at all subtle, but it sure is delicious.
