Attractive deep amber/old gold color; superb clarity. This aroma is slightly muted in the first go-round, emitting only distant scents of leather and grain; unfortunately further air contact doesn’t serve this bouquet well since the core aromas remain elusive; so I move on. Entry is pleasantly animated in a dry, slate-like/stony/earthy manner; midpalate displays far more in the way of true Bourbon character as flavors of grain mash, oak char, maple, toasted marshmallow, and light-colored toffee weigh in to redeem the lackluster bouquet. Concludes handsomely in waves of caramel, maple, and oaky vanilla.
