About This Wine
Tasting Notes
Rich, dark red berry and black cherry fruit accented by blood orange, pomegranate, black pepper, briar, cocoa, and subtle earthy spice supported by bright acidity and structured tannins.
Producer Notes
Handcrafted in small, open-topped redwood fermenters with native yeasts and aged in French oak cooperage—a tribute to traditional, historic California winemaking.
Food Pairings
Critical Acclaim
The 2024 Zinfandel Old Hill Vineyard is a powerful, deceptively mid-weight wine. Blackberry, gravel, incense, tobacco, licorice and dried herbs are all amplified in the glass. Bright acids and beams of supporting tannin shape the long, persistent finish. The 2024 is gorgeous, but it is also embryonic. This historic site was first planted with wine grapes in 1852. Joel Peterson helped revive this vineyard in the early 1980s and has been associated with it since, a remarkable streak that spans four decades. Wines like this are more than just wine—they are a window into the rich history of Sonoma County and its legacy field- blend vineyards (in this case planted with more than 30 varieties), bur through a modern lens. A recent bottle of Peterson's 1986, made at Ravenswood, was a fine testament to the potential of this site, potential that has only grown under the stewardship of proprietor Will Bucklin and viticulturist Phil Coturri.
